Extending God's Love to the Widows in Uganda

“Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.” 1 Timothy 5:3

We commit to recognize and serve them on a regular basis.

Based on the clear instruction in the Bible, Heavenly Bridge Ministries has a heart for widows and is committed to supporting them. Our goal is to provide for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. We believe that by providing opportunities, resources, and the love of God, they can overcome the many challenges they face.

The widows we work with often suffer not only the loss of their husbands, but also the loss of societal protection. Most of them lose the right to the small property that they enjoyed when their husbands were still alive to the relatives of the late husband or clan. The tradition is mostly oral-based, and the land tends to be passed down through generations, usually via the oldest male child. When the husband dies the family reclaims the land leaving the widow with nothing and a number of kids to look after.

In Uganda alone, 80% of widows live as the heads of their households and 88% are wage-earners. Yet, 56% are disabled, 57% have never been to school, and 70% are illiterate. A large majority of widows live in the rural areas, involving themselves in subsistence farming.

The number of widows we support is so immense, and the problems they face so complex, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the burdens they face. But, we are grateful we serve a big God and have people like you who come along to ease out the burden and change the story of these women. Together we can solve the issues of these women one at a time.
